Onychomycosis
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection that affects the toenails and, less commonly, the fingernails. It is characterized by a change in nail color, thickening and fragility. This condition can cause pain and, if left untreated, can lead to more serious complications.
HOW IS IT TREATED?
Treatment of onychomycosis includes topical and oral options. Topical antifungals, such as nail polishes and creams, are applied directly to the affected nail. Oral antifungals are most effective for severe infections and are prescribed by a doctor. At Clínica LEMEL we have advanced treatments such as laser therapy, which can help eliminate the infection. Maintaining good foot and hand hygiene, and avoiding hot, humid environments, can prevent future infections.
