Psoriasis (Dermatology)

What is it about?

WHAT IS IT?
It is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, which consists of an exaggerated immune response of our skin and leads to the appearance of lesions in the form of erythematous scaly plaques (red and scaly) that can itch in some cases.
People with psoriasis generally have a family history or a genetic predisposition, but there are factors that can trigger or worsen the disease such as respiratory tract infections, use of systemic corticosteroids, physical or psychological stress, etc.
It is important to know that psoriasis is not always a disease limited to the skin, but it can also affect the joints progressively, which is why its detection and treatment is important.
HOW IS IT TREATED?
There are topical treatments (creams, ointments or lotions) that contain corticosteroids or special acids, appliance treatments (that include UV light) and systemic treatment (immunomodulatory medication).
