Hormonal or Pregnancy Spots
WHAT IS IT?
Hormonal pigmentation, also known as melasma, is a pigmentation disorder that appears as brown or grayish patches, usually distributed symmetrically across the face.
It commonly affects areas such as the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and chin, and may be associated with hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, and sun exposure. During pregnancy, it may appear or become more pronounced, a condition traditionally known as the “mask of pregnancy” or chloasma.
Melasma is a complex condition that can vary in depth, extent, and intensity. Sun exposure and heat may contribute to its development or make existing pigmentation more noticeable.
For this reason, a proper evaluation is essential to identify the type of pigmentation and determine the most appropriate approach for each skin type.
