WHAT ARE THEY?

Blackheads, whiteheads, and comedones are lesions that develop when pores become clogged with an accumulation of sebum and dead skin cells.

Blackheads, or open comedones, develop their dark appearance when the material inside the pore is exposed to air and oxidizes. Whiteheads, or closed comedones, remain covered by a thin layer of skin and appear as small, light-colored bumps.

They most commonly occur in areas with higher sebum production, such as the forehead, nose, and chin, although they may also appear on other areas of the face or body.

Their development may be associated with skin type, hormonal factors, individual predisposition, excess sebum, or changes in the skin’s natural renewal process. A proper evaluation helps identify the cause of the pore blockage and determine the most appropriate care for each case.
